Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary meets Thursday, 1pm, in the Goodman Education Center. If you feel called to serve the spiritual needs of our sisters and brothers who are home-bound or in nursing homes, please join us at a weekly meeting to learn about the Legion. Volunteers for outreach are always welcome.

The purpose of the Legion of Mary is to strive for the personal sanctification and growth in holiness for its members, to assist the pastor by helping him in performing spiritual works in the parish, to spread the devotion to Mary primarily by encouraging the recitation of the Rosary, and to perform apostolic works, such as door to door contacts and nursing home visits.

There are 2 branches in the Legion, active and auxiliary.

The active members commit to meeting once a week for prayer, planning, and discussion and provide at least 2 hours of apostolic work for the parish each week.  Our members visit nursing homes for prayers and Eucharistic calls, teach in the parish Faith Formation program for children, and bring Eucharist to people at home and in the hospital.

Auxiliary members pray the Rosary and a small booklet of prayers each day, asking the Holy Spirit and our Mother Mary to strengthen and guide active members as they perform their special works.

Each year Legion of Mary members attend a special Mass in March to consecrate themselves to Mary. There is also an annual retreat in September, and a Christmas holiday lunch.
